Currencies and selling
Three currencies, and they do not overlap.
| Currency | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Coins | Gear, rod upgrades, bait, ships |
| XP | An unlock gate: rod upgrades, high-level quests, better ships |
| Clams | Cosmetics and gamepasses |
Coins
Earned by selling fish to Trevor, who pays in coins at fixed prices on every island. /sell and /sellfish do the same anywhere.
What a fish earns comes from its species, its weight, which multiplies the price linearly, and its mutation.
Coins can be stored with Midas at the bank to earn interest.
XP
Earned from catching fish and quests from Finn.
XP is best understood as an unlocker rather than a currency. It gates what you are allowed to buy, rod upgrades, higher quests, better ships, while coins pay for them.
There is no XP shop or NPC. Plenty of things that will eventually cost XP do not exist yet.
Clams
Spent at Coral on cosmetics and gamepasses. Earned through harder quests, staff events, and real-money purchase.
Clams cannot be lost, ever.
Note: some gamepasses affect gameplay as well as appearance, so clams are not a purely cosmetic currency.
Awaiting data
Sell prices per species, XP costs, and the clam shop stock, all being balanced.
